Characters dying on The Walking Dead isn’t exactly a surprise anymore, but the speed and order in which they meet their makers is one we will never take for granted.
After the will-they won’t-they drama surrounding the fate of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), you’d be forgiven for expecting a brief reprise in the rising body count – you’d be mocked, sure, but also forgiven.
But, as we all know, that’s not how the post-apocalyptic zombie series rolls, and they get as much joy from teasing fans as they do taking out zombies in new and creative ways.
And that trend looks set to continue post-Rick, with a nod to the comic books hinting that the demise of yet another character could take place sooner than you think.
But, if you don’t want to know more, now is the time to stop reading…
The opening of ‘Stradivarius’ sees Rosita (Christian Serratos) battered, bruised and running through the forest.
We can’t see what she’s being chased by, but we can hear them – The Whisperers, the new creepy group already introduced to us early on in season nine – and, finally, we see her unable to continue on and fall to the ground.
And for fans of the comics this scene is pretty familiar as Rosita also goes through a similar sequence, only to then be killed ‘off-page’ by the Whisperers, who go on to place their victims’ heads on spikes once they have killed them, creating a macabre border to mark their terrirory.
However, we know the show has veered away from the comic series in many places, creating new timelines and storylines for characters that we just don’t see in its illustrated predecessor.
