Just a month after its release, Wonder Woman has made more money than any of its DC Comics predecessors, including Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman. As well as revolutionizing the box office, the movie was widely discussed on social media due to its feminist message, especially on Tumblr, which elected it the “most popular film of 2017“.

Although not recommended for under 13s, the film was also well-received by children. Dozens of anecdotes circulated on the internet confirming the positive impact of the first blockbuster to focus on a superheroine. Following the broadcast of the TV series in 1975, the LGBT community adopted Wonder Woman as its icon. She was also the first bisexual superheroine.

With the same aim of showcasing female characters, Marvel released Ant-Man and the Wasp, the first film from the studio to feature a superheroine. In a recent interview with Comic Book, Evangeline Lilly, who plays the Wasp, shared her ambitions for the future of superhero films:

“There’s talk of an all-ladies MCU movie amongst the MCU ladies. We would love to do that, and I think we should all put as much pressure as possible on [president of Marvel studios] Kevin [Feige] to make that happen.”

She added: “I am going to continue to keep the rumour and gossip about an all-female Avengers film going until it happens“. A petition was published last week calling for the film to be made. For now, it has collected more than 6,000 signatures of its target of 10,000. So, when will we see the next Marvel movie featuring Shuri, Okoye, Black Widow, Gamora and the Wasp
